Timeless, Elegant Wedding at the Adler Planetarium

Orchids, roses, greenery - oh my! These chic white flowers combine to create an elegant look, perfect for a summer wedding overlooking the Chicago skyline. When planning their wedding, Katie and Evan were going for a classic, simple, elegant wedding look with their colors being white and champagne.

They chose some amazing, historic locations to celebrate their love. First, they got ready at the Palmer House Hotel downtown Chicago. Fun fact: this hotel was the FIRST to incorporate light bulbs, telephones, and elevators and was also the inventor of the delicious brownie (source: The Palmer House website).

For the main event, they chose the Adler Planetarium, one of Chicago’s most iconic museums and educational centers located right on Lake Michigan. A fun fact about the Adler is that it was the FIRST planetarium in the United States! Its uniquely shaped building and its location on the water make it an unforgettable place to host a wedding. Their bridal party definitely fit the elegant and timeless look. Evan’s groomsmen wore black suits with black ties, and we provided orchid boutonnieres for them to wear on their lapels. Katie’s bridesmaids wore long, sleek, champagne colored dresses. We created petite bouquets made of all white floral (ranunculus and roses) and a touch of greenery to complete their looks. Everyone looked glam AF!

It was a stunning summer day in Chicago, with a big blue sky overhead. Look at these amazing shots they took right on the water’s edge! Love them.

After photos, it was finally time for their ceremony. We crafted two large floral hedges to frame them at the altar filled with delphinium, orchids, hydrangeas, roses, and italian ruscus greenery. We later repurposed these arrangements in the reception, and placed them in front of the head table. What an amazing Chicago skyline backdrop for a wedding!

We made a larger version of the bridal bouquet for the memory table, which was located right next to the seating chart. The orchids and greenery cascaded down from the large clear vase.

We also made a smaller version for the gift table, accompanied by some gold votives.

The Adler Planetarium is not only unique and eye-catching on the outside, but also on the inside! It’s a rotunda covered in glass so you can still see the skyline. It also makes for stunning light during sunsets, as you will see! For their dinner table centerpieces, we placed a tall white orchid in a gold vase in the center of guest’s tables. We also added some gold votives for candlelight. Guests were gifted these centerpieces at the end of the reception. What a nice way to have zero waste!

For their head table, we placed loose greenery down the center along with tall, white taper candles in gold holders. We also repurposed the bridesmaid’s bouquets by placing them in gold vases.
