Moody, Dark, Romantic Wedding Flowers at the Old Post Office

One of the most amazing parts about being located in Chicago is all the unique, historic venues we get to adorn with flowers. Kristen and Reuben got married last November at The Old Post Office, which definitely falls under this category. This historic building was originally completed in 1921, but then underwent a huge expansion in 1932 to accommodate Chicago’s unprecedented postal needs. At the peak of its operation, it was in charge of moving 19 million pieces of mail daily! Today, it’s mostly used as an office and event space. One cool thing is that today it features an award-winning rooftop garden.

When we met with Kristen and Reuben about their wedding flowers, they had a vision of dark, moody, romantic florals. We came up with a vision of colors like burgundy, mauvey purple, ivory, blush, plum, dark greens and eucalyptus greens. Keep reading to see how their florals came out. Thanks to Colin and Lakin for capturing their big day on both digital and film!

We made Kristen’s bridal bouquet with flowers like burgundy dahlias, blush roses, red amaranthus, dark purple ranunculus, and dark pink protea. As for Reuben, we created his boutonniere with a dark purple ranunculus and greenery. Her elegant, off the shoulder wedding dress combined with his dapper black tux made them look like a million bucks! We looove these photos they took on the rooftop garden.

The bridal party kept it sleek and moody by wearing all-black attire. The ladies wore long black dresses of various styles, and the guys kept it classic by wearing black tuxes with bowties. We created mini bouquets and similar boutonnieres for the bridesmaids and groomsmen, to emulate the bride and groom.

We gotta say, the Historic Lobby was looking sexy as heck! There’s something about the tall ceilings, gold details, ornate floor, and marble walls that really brings the wow factor. And the gold Chiavari chairs? Nailed it! To add some more romance, we added candles to the aisles as well as two tall floral arrangements for the aisle entrance.

We adorned their wooden Chuppah with similar flowers to the bridal bouquet - featuring plenty of deep red amaranthus. We just love the drama of those dripping flowers!

For the reception, we dressed up the dinner tables in a combination of low floral centerpieces as well as tall ones. We also added tall white taper candles - because what would a wedding reception be without candlelight? We’re obsessed with the black linens and the hand-drawn dinner menus. So good! To add a little pizazz to the gift and guestbook table, we added an eye-catching, medium-sized floral arrangement.

After the ceremony, we repurposed their florals and candles to adorn the head table. How sexy does the space look in candlelight?!

Cheers to a lifetime of happiness together! Mazel Tov!
