Bright and Lush Spring Wedding at the Chicago Botanic Garden
It has almost been an entire year since Joe and Kathryn got married at the Chicago Botanic Garden! So we thought this would be the perfect time to reminisce about their luscious spring wedding. Special thanks to their dream team of wedding vendors, especially their wedding planner, LOLA Event Productions, and their photographer, Elena Bazini Photography. Check our their photos and read more about their wedding below!
They chose one of our favorite venues in the Chicago area. This renowned garden is located about 25 miles north of the city, in Glencoe, Illinois , and it boasts so many different species of plants, flowers, trees. With 27 display gardens in four natural habitats (McDonald Woods, Dixon Prairie, Skokie River Corridor, and Lakes and Shores), it is an incredible living plant museum and an awesome place to spend time- let alone get married! Going there is like traveling to a completely different world- it’s like a serene breath of fresh air, especially when coming from the concrete jungle of Chicago.
Kathryn and Joe got married on May 14, 2022, and set out to create a joyful, cheerful garden vibe featuring vibrant shades of pink in their wedding flowers. Their joyous, seasonal blooms complemented the outdoor space and spring vibe perfectly. Kathryn carried a bright and round shaped bridal bouquet. Some flowers featured were roses, peonies, snapdragons, and ranunculus. Spring is such a fun time to design floral arrangements, because there are so many in-season blooms to choose from. The bridesmaids carried similar, but smaller bouquets. We loved the different tones of blush and the different textures of their dresses. The matched, yet eclectic bridesmaid look is a favorite wedding trend!
They took their wedding party portraits downtown Chicago, which created such a cool contrast from their wedding photos. Chicago loop, cityscape photos as well as green and luscious garden photos?! They got the best of both worlds.
Joe and Kathryn really lucked out with a sunny spring day for their wedding. We decorated their ceremony aisles with bright, low floral arrangements that held flowers like ranunculus and roses. Instead of a typical ceremony backdrop, we provided two large statement floral arrangements on either side of them. They exchanged their vows in front of the most luscious, green garden backdrop. So dreamy!
We love suggesting ways in which we can repurpose floral arrangements in different parts of the wedding decor. There’s no need to create one piece for each location, especially when there are location changes between the ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner. We moved the low arrangements lining the aisles after the ceremony, and turned them into dinner table centerpieces. We also moved the large statement ceremony arrangements and put one near their cocktail hour lounge set (provided by Bowery and Bash), and the other one in the center of the escort card table.
One of our favorite pieces of decor we created for their wedding was a large hanging floral ring in the middle of the room. It was about 6 feet in diameter, and it held lots of bright florals and greenery. It was such a fun way to incorporate a statement floral piece into the dance floor.
Their four-tiered, white wedding cake with dainty floral designs was provided by Bittersweet Pastry.
Kathryn and Joe’s spring wedding at the botanic garden was such a joy! Their flowers matched the happiness of their wedding day. Happy first anniversary, Kathryn and Joe we wish you many many more to come.
